Help Benoni charity organisations make a difference on #GivingTuesday

“#GivingTuesday encourages everyone to be generous and give donations, volunteer hours, donate food and clothing, and perform acts of kindness for those in need,”

Benoni’s The Almond Tree, Kids Haven, Home Start SA and Life Choices are calling on residents to show support for their Christmas campaigns on #GivingTuesday, which takes place on December 3.

“#GivingTuesday encourages everyone to be generous and give donations, volunteer hours, donate food and clothing, and perform acts of kindness for those in need,” said fund-raising coordinator of Kids Haven Susan Daly.

Benoni charities are gearing up for #GivingTuesday

“#GivingTuesday is a global day of giving to bring the collective power of individuals, communities and organisations to encourage charity and to celebrate generosity worldwide.

“The day encourages everyone to behave generously after all the commercial spending that takes place worldwide on Black Friday.

“The Almond Tree and Kids Haven want to raise funds to provide Christmas lunch to children who live in each home.

“Life Choices and Home Start SA want to raise funds to provide hampers to new moms, babies and young families for Christmas Day.”

Around 400 beneficiaries are expected to benefit from the #GivingTuesdayBenoni campaign.

“This campaign calls on residents of Benoni to help these organisations from Benoni to care for those in need in our community at Christmas time.”

Local restaurants and retailers will also participate in the initiative.

Various ways of donating to the cause on the day includes donating online or by visiting participating restaurants or retailers.

According to Daly, community members can visit the below restaurants at any time on December 3 and add R10 to their bill. The restaurant will then match this donation for the organisations.

Participating restaurants include:

Dingo’s Pub and Restaurant at Lakedene Centre, Lakefield

Del Forno in the Farrarmere Shopping Centre

Mugg and Bean and The Square @ Farrarmere

The Social House Café, Rynfield.

Trolleys will also be set up at retailers where residents will be able to purchase groceries and drop them off in the trolleys for the organisations.

Participating retailers include:

Benoni Super SPAR, corner of Tom Jones Street and Ampthill Avenue

Kit Kat Cash and Carry, Oos Street and Princes Avenue

The Falls Super SPAR, Webb Street corner Great North Road.

“Collectively, we want to raise groceries to feed everyone this Christmas,” said Daly.

“We commit to equally sharing the groceries raised between each of the four charities so that everyone can celebrate Christmas.

“Those who wish to donate can also go directly to the organisations on the day with a cash donation, something for the grocery hampers for Christmas or a gift for Christmas.

“Everyone is also grateful to receive second-hand clothing and toys too.”
