Locals pack a punch to help Kids Haven

The boxing bouts will include white collar boxers, boxers from the VIP gym and volunteer boxers, such as Manaka himself.

VIP Boxing Academy is hosting its annual charity fund-raiser on December 7 and this year, it is being held at the gym itself and is in aid of Kids Haven.

“Traditionally, we host a black-tie event at a venue but due to a lack of sponsorship we have decided to host it at the gym this year instead of not doing anything at all,” said owner Harry Ramogoadi-Manaka.

“We decided to donate to the home after visiting it recently. Apart from donating furniture to Kids Haven, the fund-raiser will also enable us to give them some additional Christmas goodies,” he said.

The academy encourages people in and around Benoni to not only attend the event but also to help by donating items, such as food parcels, clothes, Christmas trees, gifts for the children and anything that could make the children at Kids Haven’s Christmas one to remember.

No cash will be accepted as a donation, but VIP encourages people to make cash donations directly into the Kids Haven account.

A representative from Kids Haven will be at the event to answer any questions about the donations.

There will be a mix of serious fights and exhibition bouts.

All donations can be dropped off at Kids Haven in Cranbourne Avenue.
