Man found in possession of suspected stolen vehicle arrested

A case of possession of a suspected stolen motor vehicle was opened at the Benoni Police Station.

A 37-year-old man has been arrested for being in possession of a suspected stolen vehicle on November 18 around 4am on the N12 close to the Putfontein off-ramp.

Benoni SAPS spokesperson Capt Nomsa Sekele said police patrolling in the area saw two suspicious-looking men driving a Mahindra bakkie.

“When they stopped them, one of them ran off, and when they asked the driver if the vehicle belonged to him, he told police he was hired to drive it,” said Sekele.

“Police searched the vehicle and found a bag with an identity document and cards.”

Sekele said upon further investigations it was found that the vehicle was stolen.
