The children also used the opportunity to create inspirational messages that included the promotion of peace, asking men to also fight for their rights, and respecting women.

With the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence against Women and Children campaign approaching, Kids Haven is taking a stand against women and child abuse.

An annual international campaign, 16 Days of Activism runs from November 25 (International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women) to December 10.

During this time, the severity of women and child abuse is highlighted and awareness is generated, while individuals are encouraged to take a stand against the epidemic.

Children at Kids Haven, under the supervision of their teacher Priscilla Watungwa, produced authentic sign boards in an effort to raise awareness of the rights of women and children and to stop the negative trend of abuse.

Messages such as “stop violence against women”, “stop human trafficking” and “let me also have a chance, stop the violence” written in South African languages were displayed on the sign boards.

“We need to give our youth, especially girls, a chance at life,” said Watungwa.

“Stop the abuse and give them a chance to explore the world and become who they want to be.

“Let there be peace in South Africa.”
