Benoni’s Cass wins top bowling award

Although he lives in Boksburg, Cass has been a part of the Benoni Action Sports Centre's community for 35 years and continues to play here and assist in coaching.

The Cape Town Masters World Cup was held at the Montague Action Sports Arena in Cape Town recently and Benoni Action Sports Centre’s William Cass came home with the Over 50 World Cup Best Bowler award.

“It was a shock, but I feel very honoured,” said Cass.

He never dreamed of winning such a prestigious award when he first joined.

“I had a friend who played action sport and one day he said I should join, so I did,” Cass said.

Action sports are seen to offer enjoyment to youngsters and adults.

“Mates and I meet up once a week to play some cricket and have fun,” said Cass

“Many people use action sports as a stress reliever for the week ahead, or just to relax from a busy day at work.”

Cass now helps out with the u-8 age group which his son, Matthew, currently plays for and still plays for the sports centre too in his free time.

When Cass was asked what his most memorable moment has been since being a part of Action Sports Benoni, he responded: “The first time my son played, I think I was more nervous than when I ever played!”
