Four boys allegedly rob girl (15) of her cellphone in Putfontein

A case of armed robbery, possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition was opened at the Putfontein Police Station.

Four boys were arrested after allegedly robbing a 16-year-old girl at gunpoint on November 5 in Putfontein about 2.30pm.

Putfontein SAPS spokesperson Const Raider Ubisi said it is alleged that a 15-year-old boy with his three friends were walking home when they crossed paths with the a group of learners.

“In the group of learners, one girl had a cellphone in her hands, then one of the boys took out a firearm, threatened her and took the cellphone,” said Ubisi.

“Community members who witnessed the incident confronted the boys.”

Ubisi said the boys tried to run away, however community members caught them and beat them up.

“The security guards from Unisa intervened, and kept the boys in their security room while they called the police.

“It was then discovered that the firearm belonged to the boy’s father.”

The four boys appeared at the Daveyton Magistrate’s Court on November 6, one of them was released into his parents’ care, the other two were released and one was remanded in custody.
