Flying squad makes 20kg dagga bust

The suspects were arrested and detained at the Benoni Police Station and will appear in the Benoni Magistrate's Court soon.

The Benoni Flying Squad (BFS) arrested three men, aged between 30 and 42, after finding 20kg of dagga worth around R60 000 in the boot of their car on October 31.

The suspects also offered officers a R1 000 bribe to let them go, said BFS communications officer WO Grant Giblin.

He explained officers were patrolling on the N12 highway close to the Putfontein off-ramp around 8.20am when Sgt Sipho Khoza and Const Elias Modipa noticed three suspicious-looking occupants of a blue Volkswagen Golf.

After making an enquiry about the registration number they pulled the vehicle over to conduct a search.

“The driver halted the search, admitting he had dagga in the boot and proposed the officers let them go.

“Officers found two black bags of dagga wrapped in tape in the boot,” said Giblin.

“They then tried to bride the officers with R1 000.”

The suspects were arrested and detained at the Benoni Police Station and will appear in the Benoni Magistrate’s Court soon.
