Local athletes in a show of excellence

The tournament featured martial arts exponents from Canada, England, Iran, Pakistan, Kenya, Namibia, Botswana, Rwanda and hosts, South Africa. The SA team alone featured over 450 contestants.

Athletes from the United Marshall Arts Dojo in Benoni took another step up in class, and did their club proud at the 2019 Full Contact Martial Arts Association (FCMA) International Championships in Tongaat, KwaZulu-Natal, last week.

President of the FCMA, Sajida Mahomed, described the standard of the championships as “phenomenal”, while the SA chief instructor shihan Aslam Mahomed was equally pleased with the outstanding results attained by the Benoni athletes, and teams under his tutorship.

The fighters who won the medals at the FCMA International Championships were: Berenge Bezuidenhout, Nathan Walker, Ali Latif, Salaamah Mahomed, Nazirah Hassan, Andione Bezuidenthout, Laila Latif, Shante Castelyn, Hannes Castelyn, Ahmad Mahomed, Taahirah Cajee, Jaylon Pillay, Mahmood Mahomed, Jaques Dicks, Afzal Hussain and Mariam Latif.
