On September 24, at around 11am, Etwatwa SAPS crime prevention officers on patrol were alerted by a community member to two men carrying a large firearm.
“The community member gave the officers a description of the suspects,” said Etwatwa SAPS spokesperson Capt Ramothakhi Maqabe.
“The officers followed up on the tip-off and found the suspects carrying the firearm in an open veld near the Isgqebhezana area.

“The officers arrested both suspects and after a search, found 18 small pieces of suspected drugs covered in silver foil.
“They also confiscated a toy AK-47 rifle.
“The suspects were arrested for possession of drugs and an unlicensed firearm and appeared in the Daveyton Magistrate’s Court on September 25. Even though the weapon appeared to be fake, it will be sent for testing.”
