Putfontein SAPS applaud sentencing of murder accused

"All sentences will be running concurrently."

Putfontein SAPS acting station commander Capt Thabo Mutsi welcomed the recent sentencing of Themba Anthony Monyakeni (34) after he was found guilty of two counts of murder and arson for killing his girlfriend and her daughter in Mayfield in 2018.

“On June 2 2018, Putfontein SAPS officers were alerted of a house that was burning in Mayfield by a concerned member of community,” said Putfontein SAPS spokesperson Const Raider Ubisi.

“When the officers arrived at the house they saw a smoke coming out of the house through a window.

“They immediately contacted the relevant department and after the fire was extinguished, they broke the door and went inside the house.

“They found two badly burnt bodies inside and a murder docket was registered at Putfontein SAPS.

“An in-depth investigation by the officers led to the arrest of the deceased’s boyfriend, Monyakeni.

“Monyakeni confessed to the killing of his girlfriend and her daughter and was found guilty on two counts of murder and arson, and sentenced to two life imprisonment and five years for arson in the Benoni Magistrate’s Court.

“All sentences will be running concurrently.

“The acting station commander Capt Thabo Mutsi applauded the investigating officer D/Sgt Hlayiseka Chauke for a sterling job in ensuring that he gathered all necessary evidence needed for the conviction.”
