Support National Cupcake Day

Events have been planned for 88 shopping malls across the country.

Northmead resident Dawn Viljoen is calling on the community to show their support for National Cupcake Day on September 28.

Dawn lost her daughter Daniella Snyman (22) to acute myeloid leukaemia in May 2018.

Previously Dawn told the City Times that the pair was involved in various campaigns for raising awareness about cancer, specifically childhood cancer which Dawn is still very active in.

She explained that National Cupcake Day is held once a year across the country to help raise much-needed funds to support families that have been affected by childhood cancer.

“It is Cupcakes 4 Kids with Cancer’s biggest fundraiser for the year,” she said.

“We are calling on anyone who can bake or who is willing to donate cupcakes on the day to participate in the initiative which we will be hosting at East Rand Mall.We are asking for an R10 donation per cupcake and all funds are used towards oncological costs for the children who are registered with us. We cover medical expenses, travelling costs and even, in some cases, we have covered day-to-day expenses. We have about 80 children that we support on a month to month basis.September is Childhood Cancer Awareness month, so aside from raising funds on the day the event is also used to create awareness of the early warning signs of childhood cancer,” Dawn continued.

According to Cupcakes of HOPE, this year will mark the eighth National Cupcake Day 4 Kids with Cancer.

Founder Sandy Cipriano is calling on everyone to get involved, mark the date in their calendars and start baking to make a difference in the lives of children.

“A Non-Profit Company and a Public Benefits Organisation, Cupcakes of HOPE aims to create awareness and raise funds for children with life-threatening diseases,” said Cipriano.

“This is achieved through our love for baking cupcakes.

Cupcakes of HOPE is a community-driven project that brings everyone involved to ‘bake’ a difference in the lives of children with life-threatening diseases.

Anyone in the community can become volunteers known as Cupcake Angels.

Anyone who would like to get involved can contact Dawn on 0718901230.

“Our Cupcake Angels will welcome your donations with open arms,” she said.

“Being a Cupcake Angel really is the sweetest way to save a life.”
