Round Table Golden East 181 named Club of the Year

As previously reported by the City Times, members of Golden East 181 embarked on a six-week journey in a 1970 VW Beetle (Boikanyo Bug) from Cape Town to Romania to attend the international meeting in aid of children who need heart surgery.

On August 24, Benoni-based Round Table Golden East 181 was awarded Club of the Year 2018/2019 by Round Table International at the international meeting hosted in Romania.

As previously reported by the City Times, members of Golden East 181 embarked on a six-week journey in a 1970 VW Beetle (Boikanyo Bug) from Cape Town to Romania to attend the international meeting in aid of children who need heart surgery.

“The award was primarily driven by the work done on the Boikanyo Bug Project and the Boikanyo Foundation, founded by Round Table Golden East 181,” said Jonathan.

“The Boikanyo Bug drove from Cape Town to Kenya, flew to Brussels and crossed Europe to Romania.

“A total of 12 500km was driven.

“Although the Boikanyo Bug Project hasn’t been completed, it has raised enough money to operate on at least 50 children who are in need of life-saving heart surgery.”

Jonathan added that since its inception, the Boikanyo Foundation has completed over 100 operations.
