#MandelaDay: Lions donate food to help feed the homeless #67MinutesforMandelaDay #CaxtonCares

The institution welcomes donations of food, clothing, sanitary towels and toiletries.

In the spirit of giving back, the Benoni Lions Club donated fruit, vegetables and meat to the Dynamic Health Education and Training Institution in Prince’s Avenue, Benoni CBD, on July 16.

The owner of the institute, Margaret Makhubela, runs a feeding scheme for the homeless and underprivileged in the area from Monday to Thursday.

About 200 people benefit from this initiative, which has been running for four years.

In June, the club donated a new freezer to the institution.

President of the Benoni Lions Club Tina Strachan said this was part of their 67 Minutes for Mandela Day.

“We saw the need to donate food because when we donated the freezer, Margaret mentioned that they would appreciate a donation of food, especially bones to make soup, and vegetables,” said Tina.

The emotional Margaret said the Lions are her angels and that she wasn’t expecting the donation.

“I am overjoyed and speechless; the Lions has always been good to me,” said Margaret as she shed a tear.

The Lions encourages the community and businesses to get involved and share the experience of giving.

Tina added that giving comes from the heart and you get satisfaction knowing that you’ve made a difference.

Margaret and the Lions thanked the City Times for sharing their stories.

The institution welcomes donations of food, clothing, sanitary towels and toiletries.

Those who wish to provide assistance or donations to the feeding scheme can contact Margaret on 079 367 9662.
