“When police tried to stop the BMW the alleged suspects sped off. Police then called for back-up and chased after the suspects,” said Sekele.

The suspects were apprehended in the Benoni CBD.

Sekele said according to the victim he met with the suspects on May 24 at Katlehong and the suspects told him they were selling platinum.

“The victim didn’t have money at the time and decided they should meet again the following day (May 25),” she said.

“The man met with the four men, gave them an undisclosed amount of money and they gave him the platinum.”

The spokesperson said the victim then realised that the platinum was fake and he then ran to the police when he saw them driving by.

Station commander Brig Ntakuseni Lukhwareni applauded the police for arresting the suspects as this wasn’t the first incident reported.

Police urge anyone who has fallen victim of this crime to come forward with any information or call the station on 011 747 0000 or crime stop on 08600 10111.
