The third suspect arrested was a 37-year-old man found in possession of 90 ziplock bags of dagga worth R7 800.

In another incident on Friday, the EMPD Equestrian and POP members were made aware of the movements of a white Nissan light delivery van on N12 at the Delmas exit, which had been hijacked earlier that day.

“The swift response of the metro police led to the recovery of the vehicle at 9.30am, abandoned at the intersection of Dotwana and Bhathana streets, Daveyton,” Kgasago said.

“Some of its load was missing and the vehicle was towed to the SAPS Van Ryn Deep pound in Benoni for further investigations.”

Flying Squad successes

Benoni Flying Squad (BFS) officers made several arrests and recovered two motor vehicles from May 17 to 19.

In the constant fight against drugs, six suspects were allegedly found in possession of various quantities of drugs around Park Street and Kempton Road, Kempton Park, Etwatwa, Daveyton, and 13th Avenue, Boksburg North.

“Cocaine and nyaope were confiscated and the suspects arrested immediately,” said BFS spokesperson WO Grant Giblin.

“One suspect was arrested on assault charges in Turton Street, Daveyton, and one suspect in Kingsway, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol.”

In further policing, two abandoned vehicles were recovered in Tembisa, a red Mazda 323 at Enxiweni Section stolen in a Benoni case and a silver Toyota Fortuner at Endulweni Section hijacked in an Olifantsfontein case.

The suspects, aged 22 to 41, will be appearing in the local magistrate’s court facing charges of possession of drugs, assault and driving under the influence of alcohol.
