As of July 1, no refuse will be collected if it is not contained in a metro-branded 240-litre wheelie bin. This is according to the Ekurhuleni metro as the migration from using small waste bins to the bigger wheelie bins has been completed.
The metro urges all residents who missed the mass roll-out to collect their wheelie bins at the Benoni Waste Depot in Golden Drive, Morehill, from Monday to Friday between 8am to 3.30pm.

Residents are required to take a copy of their identity document and municipal account to the depot to collect their free wheelie bin.
Refuse collections are charged at R162.24 per month for each bin and bins must be outside the house by 7am on the calendar days provided by the metro.
There are various advantages of using the wheelie bins, which include:
• Provides more storage capacity than the refuse bin used previously.
• Have a longer lifespan than a bag (approximately eight years).
• Minimises tearing of bags by rodents and stray dogs, and infestation of rodents.
• Durable and easy to clean.
• Easy to handle, with a low risk of being exposed to sharp objects.
• Does not generate water vapour and is made of pest repellent material.
• Avoids continuous acquisition of plastic bags, thus reducing air pollution.
• Promotes uniform service standards and cleanliness of the metro.
