Sibikwa steers youth in right direction

The youngsters were excited to perform.

Youngsters showcased their polished skills at Sibikwa Arts Centre from May 14 to 17 at the Artists-In-Schools Festival.

Marketing manager Bongani Yende said every year the Arts Centre, situated in Liverpool Road, identifies several schools to empower.

“This year we chose 40 schools in Gauteng, and sent facilitators to teach the learners from January until May,” he explained.

“The facilitators taught the learners skills such as performing and visual arts, among others, skills which they will showcase to fellow selected schools.”

This year, nine schools from Benoni were selected to showcase their talents and skills developed over the past five months.

“It is not a competition, but the learners’ performances will be judged to provide feedback to the school,” Yende explained.

“Participation certificates are also awarded to each school.”
