Snake Road robber remains in custody

The man was arrested on March 20 on Snake Road around 11.30pm.

A 35-year-old man who was arrested for common robbery will remain in police custody after his appearance in the Benoni Regional Court on March 22.

He will reappear in court on March 29.

Benoni SAPS spokesperson Capt Nomsa Sekele said a woman, who was driving a VW Polo, stopped at a red robot on Snake Road.

“Suddenly, an unknown man smashed her passenger window, grabbed her wallet and ran into the nearest open veld,” said Sekele.

“The woman then saw a police vehicle that was patrolling in the area and she told the officers what happened.”

Sekele said the officers ran after the man and arrested him.

A case of common robbery was opened at the Benoni Police Station.
