Suspected Actonville drug dealers detained

Both suspects were scheduled to appear in the Benoni Magistrate’s Court.

Two suspected Actonville drug dealers are behind bars after a swift response to tip-offs by the EMPD Drug Enforcement Unit this week.

At around 2.30pm on February 27, a tip-off led to the arrest of a suspect (36) walking in Patel Street.

“During a stop-and-search, officers found him in possession of 32 pieces of crack cocaine, know as ‘rocks’ on the street,” explained EMPD media liaison officer Kobeli Mokheseng.

“The drugs are worth about R1 500; R300 in cash was also found on the suspect and confiscated.

“We believe this money was made from the sale of these drugs to the public.”

The suspect was detained at the Actonville Police Station on charges of possession and dealing in narcotics.

On February 28, again acting on a tip-off from a reliable source, Drug Enforcement Unit members arrested a suspect after he was found in possession of dagga.

“We found the 32-year-old suspect relaxing in his room, in Soma Street, Actonville, at about 9.45am,” Mokheseng said.

“We discovered this suspect had been arrested for a similar offence in December 2017.”

Officers found 22 small bags of dagga, valued at about R200, and R3 500 in cash was also confiscated.

“During the search we conducted, a minimum amount of force had to be used to detain the suspect as he tried to physically attack our officers.”

“He was detained at the Actonville Police Station on charges of resisting arrest and possession of and dealing in dagga.”
