Blocked storm water drain causes road to flood in Benoni South.

A social media thread shows the incident was reported on January 28.

The Ekurhuleni metro has taken more than three weeks to attend to a blocked stormwater drain in Birmingham street, Benoni South, this according to local businessman Haroon Cassim.

Cassim explained that the matter was first reported on January 28.

After obtaining a reference number Cassim took to social media to express the urgency of the matter.

In a thread of tweets posted by Cassim and the municipality, Cassim is seen requesting assistance from the municipality.

Thunderstorms last night (February 22) further aggravated the matter with water rising knee-high in some parts of the street causing some business premises to flood.

After various feedback to the metro on the severity of the matter he was told this morning (February 23) that “matter is still in progress” and the “query has been escalated”.

The City Times contacted the metro for comment.

Spokesperson for the metro Themba Gadebe said the metro was attending to the matter.

“We are currently establishing contact with the resident in order to speedily resolve the matter,” Gadebe addd.
