Boat club soars to the support of furry friends at Rynfield Dam

It is always good to see powerboats in Benoni waters.

High-adrenaline inflatable powerboat racing returned to the water of Rynfield Dam when the Zodiac Inflatable Boat Club of South Africa (ZIBC) hosted a charity event, Riding for Paws III, at the East Rand Speedboat Club (ERSC) on February 2.

According to ZIBC chairperson Barry Marx, the club decided to combine a club race with a donation initiative with the entrance fee being a bag of cat or dog food, which would be given to the Purple Red Paws Amaranthine Rescue and Rehabilitation Centre in Zesfontein.

“It was pretty successful and we had lots of rubber ducks on the water,” he said.

Despite the threat of rainy weather spoiling the party, the gloomy skies held firm and a good day of competitive racing was enjoyed.

“The competition in the modified class was particularly entertaining,” added Marx.

Riaan Keyser and Corne Raath won the standard class, Jaco Kloosterziel and Jaylene Gilisas won the blue print class while Renier le Roux and Dean Croukamp won the modified class.
