They are also looking for learners who would like to join the extra classes on weekends.

The Daveyton Book Club continues to change the lives of young people, one page at a time.

The club is looking for volunteers who can tutor Grade One to Grade Seven learners English, mathematics and science and Grade 10 to 12 learners physical science and mathematics on weekends in various schools in Benoni, Daveyton and Etwatwa.

Daveyton Book Club co-founder Kwandile Sikhosana said the extra lessons are an attempt to “make education fashionable in rural and township schools” and also allow learners access to information.

The club is an organisation that seeks to address illiteracy by establishing mini-libraries and book clubs for disadvantaged communities through partnerships with community developers across the country.

The organisation undertakes several community projects, including feeding the homeless, clothing street children and providing free basic project management training, computer skills and entrepreneurship.

To become a volunteer, send your CV and a letter of motivation for wanting to join the Daveyton Book Club to Sarah Madingwana at sarahmadingwana@gmail.com or visit their website https://daveytonbookclub.wixsite.com/ekurhuleni.
