New World Shotokan Karate’s (NWS) sensei John Barnett (eighth dan) and sensei Janien Potgieter (sixth dan) graded up recently at the National Gambate Gashuku in Cape Town.
Their club, The Dojo, based in Rynfield, Crystal Park, Boksburg and Kempton Park, teaches karate, self-defence, weapons and competition karate.
Barnett said that it has taken him 58 years of disciplined training, teaching and a great deal of sweat to achieve his eighth dan.
The NWS is an international karate organisation with its head office in South Africa.
