Taxi in Crystal Park robs, assaults commuters

The victims of this gang are urged to report the matter to the police.

The Crystal Park police have warned taxi commuters to be vigilant of a taxi that robs and assaults passengers.

This follows a spate of robbery and assault cases that have been reported since the beginning of last month.

Crystal Park SAPS spokesperson Const Alex Mokete said the incidents involved a white Quantum taxi with an unknown registration number, pretending to offer a taxi service but then pouncing on unsuspecting commuters.

“Most of the time the taxi picks up commuters who are from work or going to different destinations around Crystal Park,” said Mokete.

“It is alleged that there are three men in the taxi and one of them has a firearm.”

Mokete said the modus operandi is that once a commuter is in the taxi, a short while later one of the men would pull out a firearm and assault commuters, robbing them of their belongings before dropping them off along the road.

“We urge commuters to be vigilant and females, especially, should avoid getting into a taxi in this area on their own.

“Women should preferably commute in groups.”

The victims of this gang are urged to report the matter to the police.

Police have made no arrests.
