Benoni motorbike racer Savannah Woodward badly injured in Mexico accident

Benonian motorcycle racer Savannah Woodward (18) was left badly injured and on life support following an accident while racing at the Italika World Cup in Guadalajara, Mexico on December 1.
The international female racer, from Benoni Agricultural Holdings, who proudly dons the number 77 whenever she competes, spent five days in an intensive care unit in a Mexican hospital with frontal lobe damage.
Due to the extremely high medical costs of being in the ICU, she was moved to a general ward where she is still fighting hard.
Her mother Eleaze and father Paul travelled to Mexico a few days after the accident to be by her side.
The motorcycle community in South Africa is rallying to raise the funds to help with her initial recovery in Mexico and her eventual return to South Africa.
Speaking to the City Times on December 11 her father said: “Savannah is not ready to travel and is still in high care and the costs are spiralling.
“The public has been great so far and have supported Savannah through a trust fund set up by Red Star Raceway’s Tracy Venter and Cre8work’s Ricardo Gaspar as the insurance is limited.
“As each day goes by the costs go up and there is still a long way to go.
“Savannah needs to be at a good level to travel before we can get her home.
“Once home there will be a recovery period with therapy and with this comes more costs.”
