BNCC stay unbeaten in the Eastern Premier League with Springs success

The good form continues.

Benoni Northerns Cricket Club’s (BNCC) Premier League XI maintained their 100 per cent winning start in the Eastern Cricket Union’s Premier League with victory over Springs Old Boys at Northern Areas on November 18.

Fresh off their victory over rivals Kempton Park the weekend prior, skipper Kurt Francis and his BNCC men were expected to make light work of strugglers Springs.

Springs (a player short in the match) scored 158/9 in 38 overs but were given many lifelines from the Northerns fielders who will need to sort out their catching.

Northerns, despite losing three wickets in their reply with the bat, chased down the score in 25 overs.

Rian van der Merwe steered them home with an unbeaten 50 runs from 44 deliveries.

“It was a nice, easy win for the boys although we were a bit poor in the field,” said Francis.

“We probably let them score 50 to 60 runs more than they should have with the dropped catches.

“The bowlers were good on a flat wicket and everybody did what they had to do to get us over the line.”

The team will play Brakpan’s United Cricket Club at Northern Areas on November 25.

The first ball is scheduled to be bowled at 10am.
