UPDATE: Fibre installation in Benoni completed for 2018

In the remaining areas, fibre will be installed next year.

Vumatel and TT Connect have confirmed that all civil work in most parts of the Benoni area is complete for the year.

Vumatel representative Travis Mason said most sections of Benoni are live and ready for in-home installations.

“There are small sections in the area, where Vumatel has not installed fibre and these isolated blocks may still be built in 2019,” said Mason.

“Crystal Park should also be built in the new year but these roll-outs will only be confirmed in 2019.”

Mason said rolling out the Vumatel network to these areas should take between one to three months depending on a range of different factors from way-leave approvals to block allocations and geography conditions.

Marius Louw, TT Connect representative, have also completed their fibre installation in the Benoni area for 2018.

Their network is up and running with customers being connected and made live on a daily basis.

“We have completed Alphen Park, Atlasville, Farrarmere, Rynfield, Lakefield and Brentwood Park. We’ll be finishing the remainder of Benoni in 2019,” said Louw.

“Our roll-out in a new area from the start of the project till completion usually takes two months. After that period the network is live and customers will be connected.”

When asked who’s responsible to fix the residents’ pavements, driveways or pipes should they get damaged, Mason said Vumatel takes full responsibility for any damages caused by their civil teams and their commitment to the community is to reinstate properties to its former condition or better.

“The damaging of services is, unfortunately, a reality with civil construction. However, we do take every precaution possible to prevent service hits,” he said.

He added that should any services get damaged, the Vumatel teams will immediately report it to the relevant municipality departments and reference numbers will be obtained.

“The services will then be repaired by either a subcontractor who is licensed to work on the infrastructure or it will be repaired by the teams dispatched by the City of Ekurhuleni,” said Mason.

Marius said as per the way-leaves that they obtain from the relevant council and the license that they hold, TT Connect is responsible for the repair and reinstatement of any damages that occur during their roll-out in any of the areas.

He said residents with queries or complaints can contact their offices on 010 492 5070 or email info@ttconnect.co.za and one of their representatives will be in contact to address any queries that the resident has.
