Close, but not close enough for Actonville Spurs against CBC Old Boys

It just was not to be for the host team.

Actonville Spurs Cricket Club (ASCC) hosted CBC Old Boys in an Eastern Premier League clash at Lords Cricket Grounds in Actonville on November 11.

Fresh from a convincing victory over Boksburg Cricket Club the weekend prior, ASCC knew that they would have to play well to topple CBC.

Despite getting awfully close to the target, skipper Mekyle Pillay’s team fell 14 runs short.

CBC Old Boys skipper Casey Arnold won the morning coin toss and elected to bat first.

His team put together 267 runs in 49.5 overs.

Actonville’s CJ van der Walt was the top wicket-taker for the hosts but was a bit expensive.

He achieved figures of 3/65 in 10 overs while Imraan Manack (2/36 in 9.5 overs) and Titans play Clayton August (2/24 in 10 overs) were good with the cherry.

In their reply with the willow, Actonville’s opening batsmen Saahil Khan and Ahmed Mohammed Jogee lay the foundation for a good chase with a 91-run opening stand.

Khan scored a deserved run-a-ball 50 before he was dismissed.

He was followed to the change room soon after by Jogee who was removed for 40 runs from 52 balls.

Van der Walt (40 runs from 68 balls), Manack (36 runs from 57 deliveries) and Ridwaan Daya (37 not out) got ASCC close to the CBC target in the last over, but it wasn’t to be a winning day for the hosts as their tail was easily wrapped up.

ASCC will play Duduza at Willowmoore Park’s B-field on November 18.

The first ball is scheduled to be bowled at 10am.
