Tumbling for all at John Barrable Hall

Tumbling is truly a sport for anybody.

The SAAerialnastix Games for tumblers took place at the John Barrable Hall on October 13.

A total of 480 entrants from tumbling clubs from Eastern and Northern Gauteng and Mpumalanga participated at the championships, keen to showcase their ability and agility.

These novice seven-to-eight-year-old girls competed at the SAAerialnastix Games at John Barrable Hall on Saturday. They represented the clubs of Eagles Tumbling (Benoni), Warmbaths, Alberton, Boksburg and Wild Flames (Boksburg).

Perhaps the highlight of the championship is the inclusion of those in the Specialnastix category.

The John Barrable Hall-based Eagle Tumbling Club special needs tumblers, Nicholas Leeds, Chris van der Walt and Phomello Rakitia, showed their impressive skills to the judges on the day, as did Alberton Twisters’ André de Guisti.

According to Inga Barnes, who works with the Specialnastix children, there are thousands of special needs children in the country who could benefit from taking part in tumbling and she invites more special needs children to come and take part.

“Tumbling gives them confidence, balance, coordination and muscle tone,” she said.

“The main thing is the confidence it gives them and a sense of belonging in a normal world because that’s all they want.”
