Fresh face for old CBD shopping centre

Revamping is underway and the wholesaler will be opening soon.

Benonians who have resided in the town for many years would know that the abandoned building, which runs across Princes Avenue and Oos Street in the Benoni CBD, was once home to the Checkers Hyper before it shut down.

Abandoned no more, the Kit Kat group are moving in.

The group is a cash and carry wholesaler that is part of a global industry and focuses on bulk merchandise and bulk purchases.

With construction underway, the City Times spoke to the Kit Kat group CEO Riaz Gani, who is excited to bring their presence to Benoni.

“Based on market studies everything looks good to open here in Benoni and we hope we’re successful.

“We structure our business in such a way that the average consumer saves a minimum of 15 per cent on their monthly groceries when shopping with us,” he said.

According to their website, Ahmed Gani (chairman of the Kit Kat group), said the brand is recognised as one of the leading brands in the FMCG industry.

Hardware will also be sold and there will be various line stores on the premises that will offer food, clothing, shoes and other services.

A date for the opening has not yet been confirmed but CEO Riaz Gani said the public will know in due course when their doors in Benoni will be opening.
