UPDATE: Bomb removed from scrapyard, to be disarmed at another location

Bomb to be disarmed at another location.

The bomb in Balfour Avenue, Benoni South, has been removed from the scrapyard and is to be disarmed.

Benoni SAPS received a tip-off from the scrap dealership at around 11am today (August 15) about what looked like a bomb.

The SAPS and the bomb squad investigated and confirmed it was a bomb – but are now uncertain if it is a live bomb or not after initially telling the City Times that is was a live bomb.

The City Times visited the area which was cordoned off.

At approximately 3.30pm the bomb was loaded into a bakkie to be transported to another location to be dismantled.

The bomb is believed to date back to the 1940’s, but this has not been confirmed at this stage.
