Benoni Van Ryn Rotary Club welcomes two new presidents

The Benoni Van Ryn Rotary Club hosts induction

The Benoni Van Ryn Rotary Club hosted the induction of its 47th president at a restaurant in Boksburg on July 5.

Members of the club were dressed for the occasion as they prepared to welcome their new Rotary and Rotary Anns presidents.

Previous Rotary president Yvonne Holmes highlighted what the club had done throughout the 2017/2018 year and thanked her board for all their support and hard work.

She listed the grant projects and the Hippo Rollers project as the club’s most successful in empowering various communities.

New Rotary president Robin Bath was elected as president for the third time.

Bath said the club plans to purchase more Hippo Rollers to help other communities.

“The aim is to focus on strengthening the club and create awareness of our activities,” Bath said.

“We will concentrate on a youth programme and do more with the youth.”

Rhoda Toker stood in for past Rotary Anns president Gill Davey in her absence.

Toker listed various successful projects, such as helping to collect and distribute toiletries to Tambo Memorial Hospital.

The Rotary Anns donated toiletries to frail care patients and donated theatre gowns to Operation Smile.

Toker said the Beautiful Gardens of Benoni project raised an outstanding amount of money every year.

Judy Bath was inducted as the new Rotary Ann president and said she looked forward to a partnership with the Boksburg Rotary Anns.

The projects they will be focusing on include preparing for the Beautiful Gardens again in January and visiting the elderly and taking them on outings.

Bath said she wants to educate and create awareness about polio and promote a plastic free world.

“Teamwork epitomises the Rotary Anns and we will continue to support Rotary in all that we do,” she said.
