The Vulnerable Citizens Support Initiative Benoni (VCSI) hosted the Mighty Men 2018 event at the Lake Club Benoni on June 30.
The purpose of this day was to acknowledge, appreciate, respect and honour the men who sacrifice their lives everyday for the safety and protection of the community.
According to Manogari “Nogz” Moonsammy (VCSI head), the day was dedicated to the wellness of men, this included talks on emotional, physical, medical and financial wellness.
Talks were conducted by motivational speakers who encouraged men to find a way to express themselves in a healthy way as opposed to turning towards alcohol or physical harm to themselves and their families.
“Husbands, be romantic to your wives and fathers be there for your sons,” said Danie Mare, CEO of Kairos.
“If we go the extra mile, there can be a change.”
Mare said men need to break down the walls between themselves and their loved ones.
“What you do today, will echo until eternity,”
The room was filled with men from law enforcement departments such as the South African Police Services (SAPS) and Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD ) Correctional Services, reaction officers from security companies and men in highly stressful work environments.
The afternoon also included entertainment, prizes, games and give-aways.
