Mobile clinic aims to bridge the gap in healthcare

Bridging the gap in healthcare in the East Rand

The Lazarus Legacy Foundation launched a mobile clinic in Brakpan on May 27.

This was due to the foundation seeing a need for a mobile clinic to reach out to many of the previously disadvantaged areas in the East Rand, where there are limited resources available.

According to Bishop David Lazarus, one of the founders of the organisation, lack of transportation and finance has been identified as the most common factors which prevent the community from acquiring the medical treatment and services that are needed.

“The foundation will provide healthcare to our communities at large, as we believe that this is a basic human right,” said Lazarus.

“We are in the process of recruiting healthcare staff and, thereafter, will be fully operational.”

The foundation is looking for volunteers and also full-time staff (preferably retired).

“We are also looking for organisations to partner with us so that we can have the sufficient resources to be functional seven days a week,” said Lazarus.

The Lazarus Legacy Foundation was founded by Bishop David and Neela Lazarus, along with Mokete Tshabalala, Marlene Sunnasy, Malcom Lazarus, Linda Bengane and Maldon Lazarus, who are directors and board members.

The foundation promotes uplifting human dignity, equal access to all services and solutions that produce a vibrant community of conscious people.

It is driven by four principles – education, community building, health and welfare and delivering health and economic development.
