Old Bens bag three points on their travels

A 3-1 scoreline was the order of the day for Bens.

Old Bens Football Club’s Eastern Local Football Association (ELFA) Super League team picked up the maximum three points in away-day action against Alberton on June 2.

The boys from Benoni returned home with a 3-1 victory.

Dave Clark’s Super League Reserve XI achieved the same scoreline in the earlier match against their Alberton hosts.

Iain Clark scores a penalty in the reserve team clash:

First team head coach Raymond Cloete said that his team ”played well, but not great.”

“Fortunately, we took our chances and got a good result against an Alberton side that is always tough to play away,” he said.

Bens went 2-0 up at half-time before Alberton upped the pressure to score.

The hosts tried to find an equaliser and overcommitted going forward to allow Bens in to score a third.

Sabelo ‘Chilli’ Mathule and Themba Vilakazi again got their names on the scoresheet for Cloete’s team.

They were scheduled to play a tough sporting team under lights at Currin Park on June 5 followed by the highly-anticipated Benoni football derby against Benoni Northerns on June 9 at Currin Park.
