Daveyton train track dog case: Peta offers R50 000 reward

Max is doing well and the SPCA investigations to find the perpetrators continue.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (Peta) is offering a reward of up to R50 000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for tying a dog to a railway line in Daveyton, recently.

Max, as the German shepherd-cross was named by the Benoni SPCA, was rescued by SPCA officials on May 16 after being, presumably, tied to the railway line the night before.

SPCA manager Vicky Finnemore said Max is doing well and that the investigation in the search for those responsible for this act of animal cruelty continues.

A train conductor, Athol Badenhorst, saw the dog and alerted the Benoni SPCA which then immediately set out to rescue the dog from what could have been a horrific death.

The SPCA encouraged the community to share the information about Max’s ordeal and the Peta reward on Facebook and Twitter, along with Max’s photo, in the hope that someone will come forward with information.

Anyone with information should contact the SPCA on 011 894 2814 or their local police station.
