The knitting group meets every Wednesday at 10am.

The residents of Country Life Retirement Village recently finished knitting 70 blankets which will be donated to the senior citizens of the Old Apostolic Church in Farrarmere on May 31.

Maureen Potgieter, who manages the knitting group, said she was approached by Myra Frewen from the church to assist her with the project to knit for the seniors.

“We saw this as an opportunity not only to keep our group busy doing what they enjoy but to add value to a worthy cause, as winter is here,” said Potgieter.

The residents of the retirement village started a crocheting group two years ago to keep themselves busy and to socialise.

“There was no commitment that we will knit for charity at the time, but then we started knitting teddy bears which we donated to needy children and that’s how we starting giving back,” she said.

“Earlier this year, we knitted blankets, booties, jerseys for the Tambo Babies Network and also donated 22 blankets to the frail care patients at our retirement village,” Potgieter said.

Avenel Smith, a resident at the Country Life Retirement Village, crochets a blanket.
