Due to non-payment Benoni Child Welfare shuts down

Great Benoni Child Welfare closes it's doors

The Greater Benoni Child Welfare has closed their doors due to the Department of Social Development’s (DSD) subsidy non-payment.

According to Elsie Labuschagne, Greater Benoni Child Welfare director, none of the child welfare’s in Gauteng have been paid.

“The staff didn’t get paid in April, and they won’t get paid next week,” said Labuschagne.

Labuschagne said this impacts the day-to-day running of the centre.

“We have used up most of our reserves,” she said.

“How will I feed the kids, I can’t sleep at night.”
