Mokoena was arrested on March 6, 2015, in Etwatwa after stabbing his ex-girlfriend.

Etwatwa SAPS spokesperson Capt Ramothakhi Maqabe said the victim broke up with Mokoena and the suspect didn’t take the news well.

“Mokoena then demanded the victim to take him back and when she refused, he stabbed her in the chest and hand,” said Maqabe.

The victim was then transported to hospital in a critical condition.

He is serving his sentence at Modderbee Prison.

Etwatwa SAPS station commander Col Molatelo Maoto said this sentence will serve as a warning that any crime against women and children will be dealt with mercilessly.
