Join these happy Benoni walkers

They walk in a safe environment.

Walking with Care is an initiative started about five weeks ago by Charlene Harding.

The group started as a Facebook page and soon grew into 30 active members who walk together weekly.

“I had this idea and decided to start a Facebook page because I don’t want people to walk alone,” said Harding.

“There is safety in numbers.”

Not only is the group there for people not to have to walk alone, it’s also an opportunity for people to get out of their homes, exercise and socialise.

“There are so many lonely people out there,” said Keith Kinman, of Walking with Care.

“This is a chance to bring them out and for them to make friends.”

The group aims to organise walks for seniors and children.

Apart from growing the group, Walking with Care also aims to help people who may be struggling and in need of assistance.

“I have made the most amazing friends through these walks,” said Rene Real, a Walking with Care committee member

Kinman said people are welcome to bring their pets as long as they are sociable and kept on a leash.

The animals should be up to date with their vaccinations and people should bring along a plastic bag to collect their pet’s faeces.

Walking with Care members walk in various areas in Benoni:

• Korsman Bird Sanctuary

• Old Bens

• John Barrable Hall

• Atlasville

The group walks for about three kilometres, which usually takes 30 to 45 minutes.

They encourage people to come in comfortable clothing and good walking shoes. Walkers can also purchase the Walking with Care T-shirt for R150.
