The visit was made after a Benoni resident complained about the condition of the municipal-owned area.

“We were absolutely shocked at the state of the pool and facilities,” said the woman, who did not want to be named.

“The bathrooms are beyond disgusting – a health hazard for sure. Even my five-year-old commented on how dirty and unhygienic the bathrooms are.

“There were members of the public swimming in far less than suitable attire. One lady was swimming in a white T-shirt without underwear while another was fully clothed in the pool.”

The resident also complained about the R5 entrance fee that was not collected, which the City Times confirmed to be true when we visited the pool.

An inquiry was sent to the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality regarding the entrance fee and what the fee is used for. Questions about the condition of the bathrooms, the walls of the pool that need a coat of paint and what members of the public are allowed to wear in the pool, were also posed to the metro.

No response had been received at the time of going to print.
