LETTER: Metro’s rounding up on statement explained

The metro’s spokesperson explains the issue.

Maxime Coulentianos, of Western Extension, writes:

With reference to the article in the BCT regarding municipal billing from spokesperson Themba Gadebe, will Gadebe kindly enlighten us as to what happens to the monies which are collected with their rounding system?

The amount is always rounded up, but never down.

Surely with all those funds, the sadly missing street names can be stenciled onto the kerbstones (those can’t be stolen for scrap)?

LETTER: Cat expert needed to answer this question

I wonder how GPS users manage?

And, of course, addressing the never-ending saga of potholes.

Editor’s note:

Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality spokesperson Themba Gadebe responds:

“Summing up the payable amount on the statement does not affect the actual account statement balance.

“The balance is rounded up only to assist with cash payment processes, however, the full payment is credited to the account before the roundup.

“Customers will note that the balance brought forward represents the actual balance and not the roundup balance.”
