Dominant Northerns dismantle Duduza

Another win for Benoni Northerns Cricket Club’s Premier XI.

It was a victory of minimal fuss for Benoni Northerns Cricket Club’s (BNCC’s) Premier XI when they welcomed Duduza to Northern Areas in an Eastern Premier League encounter on February 4.

It was BNCC’s fourth straight home league match in the second half of the 2017/18 campaign, and marked a fourth consecutive victory for the Benoni-based team.

Stand-in BNCC captain Rhenier Jordaan won the morning toss and decided to bowl first.

His bowlers backed up his decision well, wrapping up the visitors’ batting order for a mere 78 runs in 38.3 overs.

The Duduza run-rate of 2.03 runs per over was indicative of the slow pace at which they progressed in their batting innings.

Slow left-arm bowler Ernest Kemm was the star man with the leather, bagging figures of 4/11 in 7.3 overs, while fast bowler Lance Humphrey achieved excellent statistics of 3/19 in 10 overs.

Young leg-spinner WP Myburgh (2/11 in nine overs) and seamer Phumelelo Masetlane (1/17 in six overs) also got among the wicket takers.

With the bat, BNCC’s Vaughn Humphrey (36 not out) and Rian van der Merwe (28 not out) got the team over the line in 11.1 overs, despite the early loss of Tian van der Walt, to ensure a nine-wicket bonus point win.

The team will need no motivation to perform when they travel to arch-rival Kempton Park Cricket Club’s home ground at Barnard Stadium on February 11, for a match which was postponed in the first half of the season.

The club’s Promotion League side was also victorious on Sunday.

They travelled to United Cricket Club’s Hosking Park home ground.

BNCC were bowled out for 218 runs in 45 overs, but did enough to wrap up United for 129 runs in 35 overs, securing an 89-run win.
