Delays in Pretoria Road construction

The upgrades to Pretoria Road are expected to start soon.

When the City Times spoke to Ward 24 Clr Kabelo Mahonko in January, she said the construction was supposed to begin sometime from January 22.

However, Mahonko said there were delays regarding the contractor, but construction is expected to start sometime next week or within the next few weeks.

Ward 27 Clr Jacques Meiring said the contract for the roadworks would happen in sections, made up of three phases.

According to Meiring, there were obstacles that the Department of Roads and Stormwater had to address before they could start the process.

“There are four trees that are in the way,” he said.

“These trees will be removed and replanted further down the road.”

The ward councillor said there will be a field and site office situated near the Rynfield Fire Station.

“This would take about a week or two to set up,” he said.

Meiring said the metro has to find local residents to employ for the project which would also take time.

The road upgrades will begin from the Engen on Pretoria Road to Snake Road.

“Pretoria Road will be widened and have four lanes to decrease the suburban traffic on the road,” said Meiring.
