Security guard shot in Mayfield

The guard was taken to hospital.

A case of attempted murder has been opened at the Putfontein Police Station after a security guard was shot at a construction site.

The incident occurred on January 28 at Mayfield, Extension Eight.

Putfontein SAPS spokesperson Const Justice Ramaube said two security guards were on duty at the construction site.

“As they were patrolling, they were suddenly ambushed by three men wearing balaclavas and one of them was armed,” said Ramaube.

“When the guard then attempted to draw out his firearm, the armed one shot him in his upper body.”

The trio fled the scene and the man was taken to Far East Rand Hospital.

No arrests made, police are investigating.
