A case of murder was opened after a Daveyton man (36) was found dead on Heidelberg Road on the border of Benoni and Brakpan on Sunday morning.
Brakpan SAPS spokesperson Capt Pearl van Staad said the man had been missing since Saturday (January 27), but the family approached the Brakpan Police Station on Sunday after contacting the vehicle-tracking company, which couldn’t help them without a case number.
“Around the same time, police received a tip-off from a community member about a corpse lying on Heidelberg Road.”
Brakpan SAPS investigated and discovered that the deceased was the same man the family was looking for.
“The man was shot once in the left side of his head,” van Staad said.
“The vehicle was found abandoned in Kingsway.”
Van Staad said a manhunt had been launched for the suspect/s and asked that anyone who has any information regarding the incident to contact the Brakpan Police Station on 011 744 7100.
