Five arrested for stolen goods

Five accused are expected to reappear at the Benoni Magistrate’s Court on Friday (January 19) for business burglary and possession of suspected stolen property.

On Thursday night (January 11) one of the accused (19) was arrested for business burglary on Elston Avenue.

“It is alleged that on the above date, Const Leslie Maifo and Const Lerato Mlontshwa, attended a business burglary scene,” said Benoni SAPS spokesperson, Capt Nomsa Sekele.

“Upon their arrival, they managed to arrest the suspect who was hiding on the roof.

“They interrogated the suspect and he gave the address and information about the people buying the stolen goods.”

According to Sekele, the officers proceeded to the given address where four more suspects were arrested and several stolen goods were recovered.

“The arrested suspects could not account nor produce any receipts for all the goods that were found in their possession,” she said.

The four were charged with possession of suspected stolen property.

Sekele added that upon further investigation, the suspects were linked to several cases of burglaries around Benoni area.

“They all appeared in the Benoni Magistrate’s Court on January 15 and are remanded in custody,” she said.

“We are asking those who were victims of either residential or business burglaries to come to the police station so they can identify their property.”

Station commander Brig Johan Jacobs applauded the two constables who effected the arrests for a job well done.
