Armed robbers pretend to be customers

An armed robbery took place in a store at the Rynfield Terrace Shopping Centre this morning (January 9).

The incident occurred at around 9.20am.

Benoni SAPS spokesperson, Capt Nomsa Sekele, said it is alleged that four men entered the store pretending to be customers.

“Whilst inside the store, three of the four men produced firearms and threatened the employees,” said Sekele.

“They took the five employees to the storeroom and demanded that they open the safe.”

According to Sekele, when the alleged robbers realised it was taking a long time to open the safe, they took a cellphone belonging to one of the employers along with an undisclosed amount of money.
The robbers fled in a white Golf GTI.

A case of business robbery was opened at the Benoni SAPS.

No arrests have been made, and the police are investigating.
