Man sentenced to 15 years

A man was sentenced in the Benoni Regional Court on December 6 to 15 years imprisonment for robbery with aggravating circumstances.

On August 17, Sandile Mthethwa (29) and his accomplice robbed a man who was standing in front of the gate at his house in Etwatwa.

“The duo approached him and produced a knife and threatened to stab him if he doesn’t co-operate,” said Etwatwa SAPS spokesperson Capt Ramothakhi Maqabe.

“The man tried to run but the two men caught him and robbed him off R150.”

“The suspects fled the scene on foot,” said Maqabe.

Det Sgt Koos Skhosana managed to locate and arrest Mthethwa on the same day.

Police are still looking for Mthethwa’s accomplice.

The sentence will be served at Modderbee Prison.

Etwatwa SAPS station commander Col Molatelo Maoto praised Skhosana for a job well done.
