Marketing manager Sharné Bodenstein said the centre placed donation bins outside the main stores to collect food, leashes, collars, blankets and dog sweaters for Barc.

Along with the donations project, the centre also launched the Tree of Remembrance campaign on December 1.

“People can buy a little bauble to write on and place it on the tree,” she said.

The baubles cost R20 and participants can place it in the tree in honour of a lost loved one or pet.

She said the goal is to reach R10 000 by the end of the festive season.

Barc director Charmaine Woest said: “Everything we receive is a bonus.”

“Once a week we do an outreach to Barcelona in Daveyton to feed the community’s dogs,” she said.

She also added Barc focuses on sterilisations and vaccinations for dogs which belong to community members.

Barc relies solely on donations from the public to operate.

The Tree of Remembrance project will run until December 24 and the donation bins will be out until December 31.
